The 47 best seasonal attractions and holiday events in Bhubaneswar (2025)

The Nandankanan Zoological Park is an interesting zoo with a wide variety of animals, including white tigers and pangolins. It is located inside a forest, making it a unique kind of zoo.

Not recommended to visit during summer as the area is huge and walking under the sun will be tiring but still we enjoyed our safari and spent some good time here. The Zoo is well maintained and has enough exotic species like the White Tiger, Royal Bengal Tiger, Leopard and Lion.Zoo also has large variety of crocodiles, reptiles, bears and giraffes.Entry fee is Rs 50/ per person and for safari is Rs 60/- per person. There is a battery-operated vehicle which makes travelling easy within zoo.

One of the best Zoo's of India. Spread in almost 500 acres of land. Very well maintained, spacious and greenery. Different species of Tigers, monkeys, lions and reptiles are found here along with Giraffe, Chimpanzees and birds.Purified Cold Drinking water and Toilets are available all around the zoo for the comfort of visitors.Jungle safari and trains are also available for adventures. Electric vehicles for those who can't walk down the zoo specially for senior citizens.I personally had a lovely experience and would surely recommend this place to visit both for adults and children.

Well worth a visit, just be patient - the entrance to the market square is set back and very busy, but be patient as the real attraction is at the end. It is also very convenient to bring a car with a battery because it is very large. It was amazing to see tigers, white tigers and lions. Tiger safaris are also good and giraffes can also be seen.Be sure to hire a guide to help you navigate the large zoo. Proof can be obtained once you receive your tickets. There is a famous white tiger in the zoo and it is worth seeing. Of course, they have ferocious lions and many tigers. Lots of animals - you decide what to see and let the guide know. It takes at least two hours to walk through the zoo at a brisk pace and see all the animals. A must-see attraction! ! !Overall, my recommendation is - spend time in Nandankanan by yourself and support the conservation efforts. It is a relatively small zoo, especially if you have been to zoos in India or overseas in bigger cities.

Nandankanan Zoological Park is a true paradise for animal lovers and families alike. Spread over vast acres of lush greenery, the park offers a unique opportunity to witness a wide array of exotic and indigenous species in their naturalistic habitats. The zoo's emphasis on animal welfare and conservation is commendable, providing a safe and enriching environment for its inhabitants. The park's star attraction is undoubtedly the white tiger safari, where visitors can marvel at the majestic and rare white tigers roaming freely in a spacious enclosure. Additionally, the park houses a rich variety of animals, including elephants, lions, giraffes, and a diverse range of bird species. What sets Nandankanan apart from other zoos is its unique feature of a botanical garden within the premises. The lush gardens add to the serene ambiance and provide an opportunity for visitors to relax and enjoy the natural beauty. The zoo's dedication to education and awareness is evident through their informative exhibits and regular conservation programs. Visitors can learn about the importance of wildlife protection and the role each individual can play in safeguarding our planet's precious biodiversity. However, to fully explore the vast expanse of the park, visitors should come prepared with comfortable walking shoes and plenty of water. Some areas might require better signages and directions for convenience. In conclusion, Nandankanan Zoological Park is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a memorable and educational wildlife experience. Its commitment to conservation, splendid animal exhibits, and serene surroundings make it an enchanting place to connect with nature and wildlife.

The name "Nandankanan" translates to "The Garden of Heaven" in the local Odia languages.Nandankanan has a beautiful botanical garden with a wide range of plants, making it an ideal place for nature enthusiasts. The zoo is well-equipped with amenities for visitors including a nature interpretation center, an aquarium, a reptile park, and a walk-in aviary.Visitors can enjoy safari rides in the zoo, including a white tiger safari and a lion safari, to get a closer look at the animals in a more naturalistic setting. We have seen almost all the animals and it’s worth visiting especially with kids. They will definitely have super fun. Even though it needs a long walk it’s worth going for the animals. The animals were also given cute names to call them. The zoo is kept clean and the animals are well taken care off.Nandankanan Zoological Park is a place where conservation, education, and recreation come together to provide an enriching experience for visitors while contributing significantly to the conservation of endangered species. It is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in wildlife and nature.

I don't really like Zoological gardens but this place was a bit different. This place was clean and the animals looked well fed. We visited this place last in 2015 and it was pretty well maintained. They also had a conducted tour bus to move conveniently inside the zoo and it was mainly for elder people and families with kids. The zoo area is pretty big and they had a large variety of animals at their zoo. The kids and young adults would enjoy this place very much.

I had a fantastic time visiting Nandankanan Zoological Park! The park is beautifully maintained, and the variety of animals is impressive. From majestic tigers to rare birds, there's so much to see. The enclosures are spacious, giving the animals enough room to roam, which is great to see. I especially loved the White Tiger Safari – such a unique experience! The park staff were friendly, and the cleanliness was top-notch. It’s a perfect place for a family outing or nature lovers. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Bhubaneswar!

We visited the Zoo in the afternoon. It was actually hot and humid weather, and the animals were also bit affected by the heat.We went for the safari and saw mostly Peacocks and Deer. 🦌The guide we hired was nice and friendly and helped us a lot to locate the animal cages and kept us entertaining throughout the whole trip.Overall a nice experience. 🌞

Nice Place. Since I Visited During Festival It Was Quite Rush Out There. I Literally Waited For More Than 1hr At Parking Plus More Than 1hr From Buying Tickets To Entering To Zoo...I Would Recommend If You Are Coming During Festive Seasons Please Book Your Tickets In Advance.Otherwise It's Very Entertaining Place For Kids. You Will Get Different Species Of Animals From Reptiles To Mammals Everything. However The Sections Of Animals Are Decreasing Day By Day

I recently visited the Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar, my overall experience was superb. This offers a wide range of fascinating animals and birds, making it a delightful destination for nature enthusiasts and families. The well-maintained enclosures and the presence of helpful maps and guides throughout the zoo made the visit enjoyable. The variety of animals and birds present at Nandankanan is truly impressive. The zoo offers a glimpse into the diverse world of wildlife. The information provided in front of each enclosure helps visitors to know about the animals. However, amid the visit, I have a sympathy for some of the animals living in enclosures. Although efforts have been made to create suitable habitats, still the birds and animals are confined to cages. Some of the additional attractions, such as boating, flying cars, and the safari train, were not operational during my visit.Entry fee for adults- ₹50/-For foreigners - 100/-🚫 Plastic was prohibited.

It is one of the best and largest zoos in India. We had a fantastic time exploring Nandankanan Zoological Park! The park boasts a great variety of animals and is very well-maintained, clean, and organized. One of the highlights is the Safari, where you can experience a national park-like environment and see animals like deer, tigers, lions, and bears. The park is closed on Mondays, so plan accordingly. You can conveniently purchase tickets online through WhatsApp. For the best experience, we recommend hiring a guide. They charge Rs. 440 per person, which includes the Safari, entry ticket, and a battery car ride. The guide provides detailed explanations about each animal, making the visit truly enjoyable. Highly recommended!

The zoo is well maintained with good variety of wild animals and birds. The zoo has a number of Royal Bengal Tigers, White Tigers, Leopards, Lions, Giraffe, range of reptiles and crocs in reptile world, nocturnal animals and many more The zoo also facilitates safari experience (though safari world is not very big in size). You can book your your entry tickets online to enjoy hassle-free check in. Electric vehicles are available on chargeable basis. Overall a great place to enjoy wildlife.

Srikant P — Google review

For me, visiting this zoo leads to a good day! There is a different parking spot for the vehicle and it is charged. You need to buy tickets and show them at the entrance gate to get an entry, also you'll encounter a large crowd at the ticket counters. Tickets for individuals as well as for the safari guide are available. Since it consists of so much of diversities that are put together, that includes various animals, birds, and reptiles; you'll not find it boring at all to explore this place with your friends and family. The environment provided to the respective creatures somehow mimics their natural habitat or the wild, as well as their basic needs, are being fulfilled. The creatures where they are enclosed are quite as natural as that of the wild including a room-like space.

Subham K — Google review

Wide variety of animals and birds. The animals are also well taken care of and healthy. E-tempos help to travel the big zoo which is really nice. Would recommend to carry plenty of water beforehand as there are very few places where water is available once inside the zoo.

Our recent visit to Nandankanan left us feeling quite disappointed. While we were excited to spend a day with our family exploring the park, our experience fell short of our expectations. The park's layout and organization seemed confusing, making it challenging to navigate from one exhibit to another. We found the signage to be inadequate, leaving us unsure about which direction to go and which animals were in each area. This led to some frustration and wasted time as we tried to find our way around.Another letdown was the condition of some of the animal enclosures. It was disheartening to see a few enclosures that appeared cramped and in need of maintenance. The animals' well-being should be a top priority, and we were concerned about their living conditions in certain areas of the park.Furthermore, the cleanliness of the park was a concern. We noticed litter in some sections, which detracted from the overall experience and the natural beauty of the surroundings. On a positive note, there were a few exhibits that were well-maintained and offered an interesting glimpse into different species. However, these positive aspects were overshadowed by the overall lackluster experience we had during our visit.NOTE: Scammers alert- DON'T BUY GUIDE TICKET FROM OUTSIDE AS IT'S A SCAM, THEY WILL QUOTE A PRICE OF RS.800/640...BUT IF YOU CHECK THE ACTUAL PRICE INSIDE THE PARK IT'S QUITE CHEAPER.

Worth visiting, have patience— At the entry it feels very down market place and crowded , but you need to have patience as the real attraction is at the end. Take battery car as it is very big and really easy if you take battery car. It is great to see Tiger , white tiger, lion. Tiger safari was also very good, Giraffe also you can see.

A really decent zoo, on its way to become a quite unique zoo. The varieties and quantities of animals they have is not that impressive compared to other famous zoos I've visited. But it is fairly entertaining. They even have battery cars for the elderly who can't walk. One special point about them is that they have an area where they have separate division for types of animals. Like bear, tigers, lion they all live in a real mini forest made for them and we enter it through a bus. Loved the concept.

One of the best zoological park in IndiaLots of birds and animals are there. Enclosures are specious and well maintained.Battery operated cars are available inside the zoo. It's recommended to buy tickets online. Battery operated vehicle and safari tickets are only available inside the zoo.The toilet complex is also clean and spacious. There is a restaurant inside the park and it's recommended to eat from that restaurant only if required. The food quality of the dhabas located near the zoo is horrible.

Never been to a better zoo, or a safari. Undoubtedly the best! Sanitation is up to the mark. Maintenance is top-notch. Make sure to experience the safari without fail!Tip: Sit at the left side of the safari bus, that’s where most animals will be best visible. 😁

Here the ticket for adults is ₹ 40 and for children up to 12 years, it is ₹ 10. Without a ticket, you will not be allowed inside and the voting area here is very dirty. We had reached before time so we were able to see some and see everything. The park closes at 5:00 pm. It was very nice to send the staff here.

Ramprabha T — Google review

Government maintenance is lacking here. Consider hiring a guide; otherwise, you'll just be looking at animals with no context. Guide rates are ₹250 per hour for groups under 10 and ₹300 per hour for over 10 people. Even with a guide, opt for an e-vehicle ticket for a less tiring and comprehensive zoo experience. Instead of a counter ticket, scan for an e-ticket outside the ticket building. Guides may ask ₹500; show them the government rates on the website to negotiate. E-vehicle tickets may have queues but are worth it. Unfortunately we didn't get safari tickets due to crowd. The tour takes 1.30-2 hours; carry a water bottle and eat beforehand as outside food isn't allowed. Remember your cap and goggles after 11 am. The diverse animal collection is fascinating with a guide. Closed on Mondays, so plan accordingly.Entry fee-50/person(adult),for kids below 5 years 10/_Safari-65/person(non-ac),100/person(ac).E-vehicle 80/-

Beautiful and wonderful place,The zoo is so well maintained and clean...best to spend time with family and make young bloods(children) learn new things, Ticket price is ₹50/head. I would suggest you to book tickets online just ₹1 extra per head. It's worth it for that price and I would definitely recommend to visit.. You can do boating here.. Even there is a ropeway which costs ₹120/ head. . There are variety of creatures.... There are battery auto's by which can have a tour of nandankanan.. But I prefer you to take a walk ... Because it will give you time to take pictures , have time to see animals 🐵🐔🐷

Huge area, well maintained and well organised. Due to limited time we opted for electricity golf cart and a guide and it was a right decision. There were lots of private guides and organizer’s but we opted for the govt guide. He took us through all the places and briefed, he was trying to rush but we made sure that he has aligned to our pace. My son wanted to see armadillo but unfortunately it wasn’t there and many other animals also missing. The safari was good, we could spot tiger, lion both were sleeping and didn’t even notice our bus. We had spotted many bears 🐻. It was an unplanned visit, though we had seen mic better zoo this was one of the memorable zoo trip. Entry ticket is cheap ~₹112 for two adult and a kid, but the guid, electronic golf cart and safari costed ~₹1200 but it’s a worth a visit.

Navigating the zoo.Outside the zoo you will encounter “guides” offering their services. The guides will quote a rate for the entrance ticket, buggy cart and safari - as well as their “guide services”. If you plan on taking a guide, pay for this yourself at the first large entrance hall - the guide counters are the first set of counters on the left. The guides will help you buy your tickets and take you to the various queues to board the buggy carts and safari bus. Do note that on a busy day at the zoo (like holidays or weekends) you would need to spend a significant amount of time standing in the buggy cart and safari queues. The guides don’t really help you fast track through any of the queues. At the first large entrance hall you can buy your entrance tickets from the ticket counters. Also buy tickets for the safari if you plan to do it. I understand the safari tickets are available here.Once you have your tickets walk to the entrance gate where the ticket is scanned and you enter.Once you enter walk straight and after the circle in the middle (with the zoo name) you will see the queue to take the buggy cart. Note: if you don’t opt for the buggy cart you can walk the route. The ticket counter is at the end of the line so make sure you buy your ticket first before entering the queue.(Note: The buggy cart is a hop on hop off service. You alight at each stop visit the enclosures and the hop on the next cart that comes to the next stop.)The buggy takes you down a straight main road to the first stop that covers reptiles. You alight at the first stop and visit the reptiles enclosure. Adjacent to this enclosure is the toy train ride; good for kids. After the reptiles visit head back to the main road, turn right and stand in the queue to hop on to the buggy again. From here the buggy takes you to the safari entrance gate.At the safari entrance gate walk straight and take the first right walkway. It leads to the queue line to board the safari bus. The ticket collector will take the safari ticket and write your seat number in the bus at the back of the ticket. It’s best to get a seat number at the front of the bus, beside the drive or in the first row of seats. The safari bus takes you through several security gates leading to open enclosures to see a pair of lions, s few small bears and several deer. It’s a bumpy ride on a dirt track. The bus stops near the animals for a minute or two.The bus drops you back to where you boarded it for the safari. From there take the buggy to the next stop of enclosures that covers tigers, giraffes, emus, and other animals. You can use the buggy’s to go from one stop to the next or walk the distance. Finally the buggy cart drops you back to the entrance.

Since my initial visit to this zoo in 2010, it has, I believe, seen significant development. However, there may yet be a need for improvement in areas such as cleanliness and visitor transportation throughout the zoo. These days, animals are far healthier. The unfathomable amount of individuals that visit Nandankana astounds me. It's a good location, after all, and well worth the money and time you spend. You and your family will have a great time. Making a reservation in advance gives you additional benefits when you visit the zoo.

The park is spread over 437 hectare land and the visitors get the opportunity to see different types of fauna. We enjoyed the jungle safari which took us through the dense jungle for 40 minutes. In this adventure, we went through tiger, lion, bear and Harbivors safari. It was so exciting and we were lucky that we saw one lion, one tiger, 3 bears and lots of deer and peacocks during that safari. Apart from that we also came to see crocodiles, elephants, different types of reptiles in a short time. We have booked an otdc tour and they have arranged the plan. We have travelled by battery cars throughout the zoo which was really required for the senior citizens of our travelling group (otdc).

I would suggest everyone going there to take the safari. The big cats roaming in their original habitat is a sight to see. Loved the maintenance. One thing is that the zoo authorities should look after the diet of the animals in this scorching heat.

A nicely setup zoo. It is located on a plot land with trees and scrubs that seem well equipped to accommodate a zoo. There are the usual animals, but we visited this zoo, especially to ser the indian and white tigers. It was mid day, so they were hiding or not very active. The animals were given a good sized cages with enough space to walk and run. Nevertheless, we managed to see some and take photos.Apart from the zoo, they also have an area that they call Safari. The animals are given a much larger area to live in, and in order to see the animals, you board a bus that drives you through the different safari zones. The drivers were in a hurry to drive you around, which did not allow everybody to make photos or to observe the animals adequately.

A must visit place if you are visiting Bhubaneswar/ Puri..Kids will love it, especially the toy train. The Botanical garden and Butterfly park are additional attractions. Just could not get over the fact that we could see the Lions, tigers, peacocks, deers, nilghai, elephants, monkeys and other animals so close - the BEST was the Safari ride, which should not be missed. You can pick up a buggy / electronic vehicle that will take you around as for many, walking is a strain, and a Guide to accompany will help you cover the zoo in a more meaningful manner. Very neatly maintained.
