BENTON FEB. 20, 1978 JULY 26, 2010 Lowell woman put others first BY CHARLES F. HABER Times Correspondent As a surgical technician, friend and mother, Heather Benton touched the lives of countless people. "My daughter Heather was a quiet, gentle person who always put others' needs before her own," said her mother, Judy Walters. Heather Benton, of Lowell, died suddenly July 26 at the age of 32.

In spite of her busy schedule, she always found time for her husband and their three small children. "She made sure to spend time with each of them and share in their individual interests and always made them feel special," her mother proudly said. For 13 years, she was part of the kidney and liver transplant team at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. "Heather loved her job with a passion," her IRENE FREYENBERGER KOUTS, IN Irene Freyenberger, 83, of Kouts passed away on Sunday August 22, 2010 at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso. She was born on May 26, 1927 in LaCrosse, IN to Joseph and Anna (Martin) Good.

She was a graduate of LaCrosse High School. Irene was a member of Hopewell Mennonite Church in Kouts. She was a loving, caring person who never had an enemy, loved the Lord and her family. On February 28, 1948 in Kouts she married Edward Freyenberger who preceded her in death in 2007. Irene is survived by two daughters: Cheryl (Harvy) Nix and Beverly (Nick) Moyer; three sons: Keith (Valerie) Freyenberger, Douglas (Ann) Freyenberger, and Todd (Heidi) Freyenberger all of Kouts; 15 grandchildren and nine great -grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, David; two grandchildren: Shawn and David; four brothers and two sisters. After burial at Hopewell Mennonite Cemetery, a memorial service will be held on Friday, August 27, 2010 at 5:00 PM at Hopewell Mennonite Church, 805 N. Main Street, Kouts, IN 46347 with Pastor Joel Short officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from PM at the church. "To know Heather was to know a best friend in every sense this term may be applied," said her best friend and co- worker, Lisa Angotti. With a chuckle, she said Benton knew her thoughts from just the slightest smirk or stare on her face.

"Heather was my colleague, my sister and my best friend." Benton's former colleagues will hold a benefit Sept. 10 in Chicago to start a college fund for her children. Benton's husband, Todd, said his wife taught him how to be a good parent. "She watched over our children like a mother bear," he proudly noted. Benton could sense all the potential pitfalls that kids encounter and did everything possible to prevent them, her husband said.

Walters said her daughter was a wonderful person and everyone will miss her terribly. Funeral services for Heather Benton were July 31, and she was interred at West Creek Cemetery in Lowell. She was born January 28, 1932 in Wheatfield the daughter of Norvin and Lucille (Stroup) Hil-, ton.

In 1960, she married Lyle Betz, who survives with their six children: Violetta (James) Wilson of Killens, AL, Richard (June) Stevenson Riverhead, NY. Sheila Wise of Peru, IN, Sharolyn (Mark) Stanton of Dix Hills, NY, Edward (Lynn) Betz of Brookston, IN and Ruth Betz at home and a very special friend, Lois Kimberling. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great -great granddaughter; two brothers and two sisters: Roscoe (Pat) Hilton of Demotte, IN, Gordon Hilton of Daliville, AL, Pam (Tom) Hershman of Medaryville, IN and Linda Maze of Nashville, TN. Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Jean; a grandson, Donald Henke; sisters: Nellie Marsh and Joyce Ptacek; brother, Norvin (Bud) Hilton and her parents. Mary owned and operated "Mary Lou's Upholstery" for 15 years, worked at Maple Manor Crown Point and the Willows in Valparaiso.

She loved craft ing, sewing, her flowers and all her grandchildren. Visitation with family will be on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 from PM at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso. NC William Charles "Bill" Bohnaker passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 at his home in Durham, NC.

He was born September 25, 1942 in Chicago, IL to Wilmer C. and Madelyn L. Bohnaker, now of Milwaukee WI. He is survived by his sons: William P. "Bill" Bohnaker; wife, Angela of N.

Dartmouth, MA, and Daniel S. Bohnaker of Durham, NC; one sister, Roberta A. (Robert) Beller of Milwaukee, WI; and one brother, James P. (Mary) Bohnaker of Leesburg, VA; two grandchildren: Hannah and Benjamin Bohnaker of N. Dartmouth; and five nieces and nephews many cousins.

Bill was raised as a "Hoosier" in Griffith, IN, participating in baseball, basketball and swimming and was a graduate of Purdue University. As a youngster, Bill and his family lived in Europe, where his father was stationed in the Army. Time spent in Trieste, Italy, where he studied Italian, and Verdun, France, gave him many abiding memories. At Purdue, he majored in systems analysis and minored in computer programming. He embarked on a career in these specialties which included positions at NIPSCO, Pan-American World Airways, Celanese Corporation and freelancing.

In the late 1960's, he worked on the Apollo space program's manned lunar landing mission while living in Florida, and felt privileged to be a part of that skilled and dedicated team. He was an avid fisherman, baseball fan and lover of dogs. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or the World Wildlife Fund. A memorial service will be held in Milwaukee, WI. EUGENE CHORAZYCZEWSKI "GENE" LOWELL, IN Eugene Chorazyczewski, age 45 of Lowell, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2010.

He is survived by his wife, Leisa; two sons: Matt and Ben Dandino; two daughters: Mallory Dandino and Emily Chorazyczewski, all at home; in-laws: Dr. Robert (Linda) Moore of Sarasota, FL; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He surrendered his life to Jesus Christ at age 28 and was a lifetime student of the Bible. He was licensed to preach the gospel and traveled with his wife to foreign lands on many missionary trips. James was a respected Bible teacher and church board member. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, trained in heavy artillery and served in Germany during the Korean War.

James was a retired steel hauler with Gary Transfer and Sims Motor Transport. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and restoring old tractors. He was born September 2, 1929 in Chicago, IL to George and Bertha (Trelkenburg) Mundinger.

He received his BA in Education from Concordia University, River Forest, MA in Political Science from Northwestern, PhD from Washington University, and completed post -doctoral work at the University of Michigan and Cambridge, England. Dr. Mundinger served Valparaiso University from 1958 to 1973 as Professor of Political Science, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Vice- President of Academic Affairs. He then joined Illinois College in Jacksonville, IL as President, retiring in 1993. On June 17, 1951 in Chicago he married June Grubbe, who survives, along with two children: Debra (Stephen) Strasburg of Ann Arbor, MI and Donald William (Carol Holdt) Mundinger of Portland, OR; one brother, George Mundinger of Kansas City, KS; and three grandchildren: Andrew, James, and Rebecca Strasburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, Mary Mundinger. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 25 at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1700 N. Monticello Park Drive, Valparaiso, with the Rev. Stephen Bongard officiating. Burial will follow at Bethania Cemetery in Justice, IL.
